Let Me In

Matt Reeves director of Cloverfield (2008) and the recently announced Cloverfield sequel will be helming a remake of the critically acclaimed swedish vampire thriller "Let The Right One In".

The chiller released in 2008 wowed critics and audiences alike with its inspired observation of the vampire condition from the perspective of its young protagonists. The initial reaction has been one of ho-hum hollywood rehash - so far.

I was inclined to agree until seeing the casting of Chloe Moretz (Kick Ass) and Kodi Smit-McPhee (The Road) in the lead roles. Without a doubt these two fine young actors are the breakthrough stars of 2010(so far) with fine performances in two excellent (albeit very different) movies.

I have seen Cloverfield on more than one occasion and found myself entertained but not overwhelmed perhaps largley due to the wishy washy largley unknown (to me) cast. The screenplay and direction however were the redeeming factors and I predict a similar approach coupled with the wonderful talents of the aforementioned young actors could result in a pleasing english language crossover.

The synopsis appears not to veer too far from the original stated as "A story of a young boy who is frequently bullied and a young girl that moves in next door with her caretaker. It is established that she is a vampire and, after losing her caretaker, must leave in order to survive. A story of innocent love entangled in murder, mystery, and horror. " Source IMDB

Moretz as Abby

As a footnote the always wonderful Richard Jenkins (The Visitor) and the ever versatile Elias Koteas (Shutter Island) will be in supporting roles making for a very interesting prospect methinks.
